I was exhausted — physically, emotionally, and mentally — trapped in a body I no longer recognized, and no matter how hard I tried, every step felt like a losing battle.

Every time I looked in the mirror, I felt weighed down — not just by my physical condition, but also by the constant frustration and disappointment. I’m Claire Moorhouse, a 42-year-old mom of two, and for years, my life has revolved around failed diets and fleeting success stories.

For as long as I can remember, my weight has been a struggle. Growing up, I was never the “thin girl.” I was always the one told to eat less and to work out more. Those words followed me into adulthood.

After giving birth to my first child, the pounds gained during pregnancy didn’t seem too concerning. I hoped they’d fall off eventually. But they didn’t. After having my second child, it only got worse.

As a working mom of two, I had my days blur together in a never-ending race. I barely had time to sit down, let alone focus on myself. Between managing the house, the kids, and my job, there were days when I’d just collapse into bed at night, wondering where the time went. I ate whatever was quick and easy — processed snacks, takeout, anything to save time.

Despair

I tried to be “healthy” when I could, but it always felt like a losing effort. My body was changing, and not in the way I wanted. The clothes that used to fit were now tight and uncomfortable.

I avoided social events because I couldn’t bear the thought of people seeing how much weight I’d gained. I stopped taking pictures with my family because I hated the way I looked.

I tried every diet you can think of — low-carb, keto, intermittent fasting — but nothing lasted. I would start with high hopes, lose a few pounds, and then life would get in the way. The pounds would come back, and with them, a deeper sense of failure.

I bought gym memberships and workout gear, thinking this time would be different. But between work, kids, and my exhaustion, I could never stick to it. I dreaded going to the gym. Every session felt like a punishment for letting myself get to this point.

I was constantly battling the voice in my head that told me I wasn’t trying hard enough. I’d wake up, determined to make a change, but by the end of the day, I was too tired to care.

Bottom

One day, I remember being at the park with my kids. They were running ahead, laughing, full of energy. And there I was, struggling to catch up, out of breath after just a few minutes. That moment broke me. I felt like I wasn’t just failing myself — I was failing them too. I was missing out on their lives because of my own physical limitations.

That night, I sat on the couch, defeated, scrolling through my phone for the millionth time, searching for a solution. I came across an ad for a dance fitness app. At first, I brushed it off. How could something as simple as dancing make any difference? But then, I thought back to when I was younger. I used to love dancing. It made me feel free and happy. Maybe, just maybe, it could do that again.

Fresh air

The next morning, I decided to give it a try. It took just a few minutes to register with Dancebit and get my first workout! I had no more time to hesitate. I started with a simple 10-minute routine and danced in my living room.

There were no expectations, no pressure. It wasn’t much, but it felt good. For the first time in years, I wasn’t thinking about weight loss or strict diets. I was just moving and enjoying it.

The first thing that changed wasn’t my body — it was my mood. For the first time in a long while, I didn’t feel like I was at war with myself. I felt lighter, not just physically but emotionally. Dancing brought back a sense of joy that I had forgotten.

Commitment

When the app offered to commit to a 28-day dance challenge, I was hesitant at first… But then I thought about what could make my activities more structured and keep me motivated and consistent.

And I committed. And never regretted it. Especially with so many dancing styles and types of workouts on offer, no boredom or mundanity could creep in.

It wasn’t easy at first — I was out of shape, and the movements felt awkward. But little by little, I started to find my rhythm again. I felt lighter inside, like a burden was slowly vanishing. I wasn’t punishing myself anymore.

Over the next few weeks, I kept dancing. And then, the weight started to come off. Slowly, steadily, without the yo-yo effect I had experienced before. I didn’t dread moving anymore. I looked forward to my little dance sessions each day. They became my escape, my "me time" amidst the chaos of life.

By the end of the 28-day challenge, I lost 10 pounds! And it was only the beginning.

Resurrection

Dance became a permanent part of my life, something I look forward to every day. No more punishing workouts, no more guilt-ridden diets. In addition, my companion app never stopped surprising me and keeping me excited! Challenges, live events, combo sessions, you name it!

By the end of a few months, I had lost a total of 35 pounds. But the transformation wasn’t just physical. I felt alive again. I started seeing myself in a new light — stronger, more confident, and finally free of the guilt and shame that had weighed me down for so long.

I could run and play with my kids again! This feeling of being able to share every moment of life with them, give to them, and be an example to them is priceless.

I wasn’t following strict meal plans, and I wasn’t killing myself at the gym. I had found something that brought joy back into my life, something that made me feel good about myself again.

Looking back, I can’t believe how much has changed. I’ve regained control over my body and my life. Dancing gave me back my confidence, my energy, and my joy.

If you’re struggling like I was, my advice is simple: Find something that brings you joy. For me, it was dancing. The Dancebit app became my fitness pal that I could fully rely on. Remember, it doesn’t have to be extreme or complicated — just something you truly love. That’s when the real transformation begins.
